I do like the TV adaptations of the Vera Stanhope series so hopefully this series in the Shetland Islands will be good as well. RED BONES is not a good depiction of the Jimmy Perez character. He is much more interesting in the earlier books I found.Maltese Condorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06327846051123983457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3566219501850777383.post-77542950899379072362012-06-27T07:19:09.485-04:002012-06-27T07:19:09.485-04:00Thank you for including Ann Cleeves....the weather...Thank you for including Ann Cleeves....the weather on the Shetland Islands is certainly a vivid character in her books.
I read on her website (published through Goodreads) that the
firs of Cleeves' SI quartet is currently filming in the UK.
It's RED BONES....my least favorite of the quartet...but an excellent archeology mystery.

JaneAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3566219501850777383.post-50244055604231153752012-06-08T08:08:40.777-04:002012-06-08T08:08:40.777-04:00Della,

A hurricane story would round out my tempest theme nicely. I have read many of Burke's stories but Tin Roof is still on my TBR.

Jacquie,

I have been meaning to read some Theorin for some time now and this summer might just be that time.Maltese Condorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06327846051123983457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3566219501850777383.post-67401711782422815812012-06-07T14:22:06.029-04:002012-06-07T14:22:06.029-04:00I immediately thought of Johan Theorin's THE D...I immediately thought of Johan Theorin's THE DARKEST ROOM. One of a quartet of books taking place on the island of Oland off the coast of Sweden. Each book takes place in a different season and The Darkest Room is definitely takes place in winter.

JacquieAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3566219501850777383.post-6948924120796786122012-06-07T10:28:52.377-04:002012-06-07T10:28:52.377-04:00I like books set in miserable weather so thanks fo...I like books set in miserable weather so thanks for this, MC!

I'll add James Lee Burke's THE TIN ROOF BLOWDOWN, set when Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005.

MC, btw, it's not tua culpa for the misspelling, it's mea culpa. You had it sheabutter and I knew it needed a space. So I changed it to ... shae butter! Sorry! This is why I'm not one of Read Me Deadly's editors. Shea Butter, (mea culpa for the misspelling...Peri,

Shea Butter, (mea culpa for the misspelling) is a natural Ghanian beauty balm made from the shea nut. It is mostly a moisturizer but some feel it has medicinal properties somewhat akin to the aloe so it is used as a base for medicaments as well.

My lovely young nubian girl is an example of a girl with sputnik hair. You youngsters will have to Google sputnik the first artificial satellite . Actually the braids would have to stick straight out from the head but I was not sure where I could find a picture like that .Maltese Condorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06327846051123983457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3566219501850777383.post-75925296295664055792012-06-07T07:55:04.279-04:002012-06-07T07:55:04.279-04:00MC, I love stories in which the weather is a major...MC, I love stories in which the weather is a major well described player, and tend to remember them longer than most other books. (Vicarious) bad weather is always interesting.

Never heard of shae butter.
